Happy Monday! I can’t believe that we moved into our apartment when it was snowing (ekk!) and now summer is on the verge and the weather is beautiful! I promised a while ago that I was going to show some sneaks of our apartment. Though I believe that decorating and styling a home is an on going process, I am loving the way this apartment is slowly becoming a home. Right now our living room is the only room that feels ‘finished’…for now that is.
One of my favorite parts of the living room is the bookshelf that we picked up from Ikea. As an book lover and believer in life long learning, I practically have a small library, consisting mostly of design, travel, and art history. In past apartments that I shared with college friends, many of my books had to be stored in my room or a closet, so having a bookshelf in the living room where the books are on display simply puts on smile on my face. Plus, by displaying books in the most used room in the apartment provides an opportunity to share with guests my favorite books or maybe even introduce someone to the awesomeness of design and art.
Another small part of the living room that is a favorite of mine is the wooden butterfly that holds recent Instax photos. Usually I keep these photos in a mug near my scrapbooking paper, but then I realized what good are they doing hidden away? They hold some of my favorite memories, like the trip we took to the cities for my birthday and the last days of our college career. These moments of our lives are captured forever in tiny little photos and I love sharing them with visitors and even taking a few minutes some days for myself to reminisce on time and the memories we have made.
Sometimes it really is the small things that make a house a home.
