I don’t know about you, but I have a serious love for podcasts and inspiring talks. When I started my full time job, I quickly realized that I needed to do something proactive about starting my own side hustle while I was working from 8-4:30. Not anything distracting, but just something to keep me inspired and focused on chasing my dreams. Enter podcasts!
We are allowed to listen to headphones while we work, so I traded in tunes for podcasts (and the occasional audio book) and it’s made a world of difference. As creatives it’s easy to feel alone, get down on ourselves and/or give into the commonly traveled career route. However, if you’re anything like me – unwilling to give up on your daydream – it’s important to do something small each day to cultivate your creativity. Hearing the stories and advice from the other successful creatives has given me the courage, support, and reassurance to know that with hard work, passion, and dedication my dreams are most certainly attainable! Some days we just need that extra oomph to keep us going. Does this sound like you as well? Are you in need a creative boost? Yes? I got you! Here’s a list of some of the my favorite podcasts and talks as of late!
4 lessons in creativity, a Ted Talk by Julie Burstein: I love this one guys! Julie talks about about four essentials for creativity and the beauty of imperfection. It’s a must watch, for real! The talk includes graphics and photos, so be sure to watch the talk first and then download to listen to whenever you need some inspiration.
Steve Jobs Commencement Speech at Stanford University: All I really need to say is Steve Jobs, right? You have probably heard bits of this speech around Pinterest, but I love hearing it in it’s entirety as a cohesive piece – it’s much more powerful! Though I don’t personally agree with everything he says, it’s a moving speech and really gets me fired up to take on the world.
Success, failure and the drive to keep creating, another Ted Talk by Elizabeth Gilbert: Though I have listened to Elizabeth’s other talk (which is great as well), I am going to officially list this one because I absolutely love how Elizabeth takes failure and success and brushes them to the side in order to keep creating no matter what. Also I adore her idea of ‘home.’
Last but not most certainly not least is…
The Lively Show by Jess Lively: If you haven’t heard of The Lively Show…well, you’ve been missing out! Thursdays are pretty much my new favorite day because that’s when Jess puts out a new podcast each week. The topics very from blogging to design to baking to money but every single podcast is relatable and inspiring no matter your interests or stage in life. For real, you guys, check it out!
Have you heard any of these talks or podcasts? What did you think of them? Do you have any favorite podcasts or talks? If so, do share! I am always on the lookout for new talks or podcasts!
