Here’s the thing: I tend to dream more often than do. My mind is always a mess of thoughts, dreams, doubts, and ideas and I usually have a hard time sorting through them unless I write them down. Whether through journaling, making lists or scribbling quick sketches, I always feel a little more organized after writing it out. The best part that after writing, I usually find a solution or a good direction to take. This writing is so integral in helping me turn dreaming into doing. With this theory in mind, here are some of dreams and goals for this blog.
First off, as I mentioned last week, I see this blog as a way to make connections with others with similar interests as mine. Ever since I graduated college, I’ve been feeling a little lost. When I was in school, I was surrounded with artists, designers, and inspiring teachers everyday – creatives just like me. Now that I’ve moved back to my small hometown, things have changed and I don’t always get to connect with creatives everyday. After a few months of feeling creatively lost, I realized that I needed a creative outlet that not only keeps me motivated but connects me to others. Connection is one of my main goals for this blog.
Secondly, I know how important it is to share your work. This goes for design work and scrapbooking. Although I have a full-time design job, there are many personal projects and freelance project that I take on. I view this blog as an extension of my portfolio. It’s the work we do in our free-time that we are most passionate about. Furthermore, the type of work that I share will directly effect the type of people that I connect with. I want to connect with passionate designers, fabulous scrapbookers, art history lovers, travelers, and those who are devoted to living life to the fullest. I hope that by sharing my work it will not only help me connect with like minded people, but also open up opportunities for collaboration, travel, career advancement, friendship and so much more.
I plan on sharing scrapbooking projects ranging from mini-albums, Project Life pages, and some layouts. I also dream about designing and sharing Project Life cards to be downloaded and used by scrapbookers. Who knows…that might expand into designing paper too, if I find that I really enjoy it. Another goal that I have in the scrapbooking department is being part of a design team for a scrapbooking company.
As for design projects, I plan on sharing moodboards, process, and final projects for clients. I always have multiple personal projects floating around in my head, so when I implement those projects, I will share those as well. I hope a blog will hold me accountable to implement these projects. I would love to feature interviews with creatives/designers and offer design resources and advice.
Though design and scrapbooking are two of my biggest passions, I also have a huge appreciation for art history. I have a minor in art history, but after a trip to Italy and seeing some of the world’s greatest masterpieces, I’ve become obsessed with learning all I can about art history. I think art history can get over-whelming quite quickly – think of all the art in this world – which is why I want to implement some sort of art history column in my blog. I think the stories behind the artists and art works is what makes art history so fascinating. I am no expert on art history, but by researching and studying it and then writing about it, I hope to learn and share. I dream of making art history fun and exciting. I think bringing art history into my blog might be a little tricky, but I’m committed to find a way!
Traveling. Ever since I can remember, I have always chased adventure. Some may call it wanderlust, but there is something deep within me that I can’t shake. It’s the urge to travel, to see the world, to learn from different cultures. I’ve been to a handful of U.S. states, but nothing beats boarding a long flight, landing in a new country, and immediately being submerged in new culture. Within the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to travel to a few countries, and I want to recap on some of those experiences. It’s a lifelong goal of mine to travel the world and I hope to document my travels on this blog.
I started reading Better Homes and Gardens at the ripe age of 12. Interior design was definitely one of my first loves. Now that I’m a little older and have my own place (with my sister), I have enjoyed immensely decorating our apartment. I have intentions to share a tour of our place…and maybe a sneak peak here and there. Also, I’ve been known to complete a DYI or two. So if an idea strikes, I’ll document the process and share it with ya’ll. I’ve got a few lined up already!
These are the things I am thinking and hoping about for my blog. My dreams and goals may change in a few months, but that’s okay as long as I am staying true to myself and chasing that something that makes me happy to be alive. I really believe that amazing things can happen when you put yourself out there. I think this post was just a long winded way of saying that this blog is a way of helping turn my dreams into reality.
