I decided to just make, instead of criticizing my work and aiming for perfection.
I was itching to use some watercolors, but I was little apprehensive since I haven’t used watercolors in a long time. I wasn’t confident that I would be successful.
BUT I decided to just go for it. If it ended up terribly, no one would see it anyways. Throwing perfection out the window and deciding to just explore without harsh judgement, I ending up throughly enjoying the process – it was so calming. I also was happy to discover that the texture and color variation of watercolor stays pretty consistent when scanned into Photoshop. Yay and yay!
Lastly, I think it’s the most important lesson that was reiterated to me:
Imperfection is beauty. Embrace it.
I can’t wait to play around with more watercolor patterns! I’d love to know: Have you ever decided to just make? How did it turn out? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter!
I love that! “imperfection is beauty” is my motto! I personally prefer when something looks handmade. When I first started spinning (and even sometimes now) my yarn was all slubby but looking back on it, I really love how that looked! I find it so much more beautiful than “perfectly” machine-made looking. I think your watercolors are “imperfectly perfect!” 🙂
Thanks so much, Carol! I completely agree and think that it’s the imperfections that make some quirky and interesting! I love that your yarn has a unique ‘carol-made’ look to it! 🙂
I really love this. For me, the beauty of water color is the “imperfect” sort of blur you can achieve with the medium. These look great.
Aw, thanks, Georgeanne! Watercolors are so fun to play around with because they definitely lend themselves to imperfect randomness. 🙂
I class myself as imperfect so that’s the best way to go. The best things aren’t polished; they’re a little rough and ready around the edges. I love how you expressed your worries through painting.
I love that, Jenny! I class myself as imperfect as well and agree that the most interesting things are less than perfect 🙂 Thanks, lovely lady!
