Tell me! How was your weekend? Mine was filled with hanging out my sister and crossing off things from her wedding to-do list. Well, some relaxation took place too, so I feel refreshed and ready to take on the week. Do you?
Although being so busy lately has left me feeling creatively drained and wanting to curl up into a Netflix oblivion, making time for creative ‘me time’ has been motivating. Sort of funny how that works out. Making patterns is freeing. It’s a no pressure situation. It’s all exploration and it’s all fun. Of course, if doubts start to creep in, I’m quick to remind myself that I’m just here to see what happens, to learn a new skill, and to grow as a creative person. That’s the whole part of a study, right? 🙂
So this week I decided to break out the watercolors again. I can’t step away from them quite yet; I love the texture and color variation it results in. And I absolutely love working with a brush! Like I mentioned in the last pattern studies, I’m not necessarily the most comfortable with paints and brushes, but I’m learning and that alone is exciting. I’m learning different ways to hold the brushes and how different brushes make different marks. Learning the ‘correct’ amount of water and keeping it consistent is something I’m still trying grasp, but I’m sure that just takes practice – plus I sort of like working with the spontaneity.
And just a forewarning, the watercolors aren’t stopping 😉 What’s your experience with watercolors? I think watercolors are pretty hot right now, but how could they not be? They are just so pretty! Anyways, do you have a favorite pattern above? I’d love to know! Let me know in the comments or hit me up on Twitter! #letsbefriends
